The situation
Competing without trying to outspend national carriers.
A regional provider was competing against national carriers with substantially larger budgets. Outspending them was never an option. When you cannot win on budget, the program has to be more deliberate about where it competes and more honest about what it is producing.
What we found
The program had to mature with the business.
- Consumer overlap could quickly dilute B2B intent.
- Regional opportunity and brand awareness varied across the markets the company served.
- Measurement needed to mature from contact counts toward the full lead journey and value.
What changed
Demand generation and measurement improved together.
- 01
Established presence across Google, Microsoft and LinkedIn using high-intent B2B searches and negative keywords to reduce consumer overlap.
- 02
Used industry content and remarketing to build demand while the CRM and pipeline-tracking foundation matured.
- 03
Segmented campaigns more precisely and reallocated investment between channels as downstream lead value became visible.
The result
Contact volume nearly doubled and the measurement got stronger.
Annual new website contacts went from 373 in 2022 to 721 in 2024 and 722 in 2025. Roughly 1.9x, sustained across two consecutive years rather than a single good quarter. These are total new contacts recorded in HubSpot across all sources. We use them as evidence of overall demand growth, not as a paid-media-only attribution claim.
Source: HubSpot total contacts by create date. Includes contacts from multiple sources; it is not a paid-media-only attribution view.
Constraint & learning
The next phase uses richer signals.
The company deserves real credit for investing in more thorough CRM and pipeline tracking. As more of the lead journey and downstream value became visible, we could segment campaigns more precisely and reallocate investment across Google and Microsoft Advertising. Paid media investment is increasing again. As audiences grow, the next step is to send richer remarketing and customer segments back into the ad platforms for more detailed re-engagement, suppression and optimization.
